We shared with you some news back in February regarding DVSA’s plan to roll out a new MOT image capture system (If you missed it, you can read it here: https://www.thetestcentretraining.co.uk/post/the-future-of-combating-mot-fraud).#
This week DVSA has shared an update on its first trial of capturing images during the MOT procedure. It was a 6-week trial with just over 170 MOT testers in 62 garages. Using a mobile phone or tablet, testers were asked to take a photo and upload it through the MOT Testing System (MTS). Around 450-500 photos were uploaded each weekday – by the end, over 13,000 photos from all 62 garages had been submitted.
DVSA reported that testers were able to get to grips with the technology quickly and by the end of the first week, the top 10 busiest garages in the trial had an upload success rate of 90.2%.

Once DVSA has collated all the feedback from the garages that took part in the first trial, they plan to make any necessary improvements and widen the trial. The second phase of the trial will focus on testing the system at scale to ensure it’s ready for a phased rollout. The DVSA trial for image capture system is a step towards combating MOT fraud.
